Lagos – A 34-year-old man, Gift Osita, was on Monday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing motor spare parts.

Osita, whose residential address is not provided, is being tried on a two-count charge of stealing and unlawful possession.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 12 at about 2.00 p.m., at Dominion Supermarket along Diya St., Ifako in Gbagada area of Lagos State.

Ihiehie alleged that the defendant stole spare parts of a car at a supermarket parking lot.

He said that the complainant, Mr Olubila Odushina, caught the defendant when he was about escaping with the stolen items and raised alarm.

“When Osita was caught, he also had in his possession two Toyota Saloon car chromes and a Honda CRV Jeep chrome – values yet unknown,’’ he said.

The prosecutor told the court that the chromes found in possession of the defendant were suspected to have also been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 287 and 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Osita, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the defendant N 50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Kubeinje said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until March 20, for mention.
